An Osterberg test utilizes a specially fabricated hydraulic loading device called the Osterberg cell, which is placed inside the test pile. Pressure applied to the device creates an equal upward and downward force inside the pile displacing both sections. The pile capacity is measured with supplementary instrumentation.
